Creative Approaches to Artist’s Support
Friday 17 June 2011, 11am – 3.30pm
The New Art Gallery Walsall
Using British Summertime II (BSTII) as a starting point, mac birmingham and The New Art Gallery Walsall invite you to join a discussion on how arts organisations can work with and support regional artists creatively; how channels of communications can be opened up between artists and arts organisations, and how venues can work together to support artists collaboratively.
BSTII is a professional development programme for West Midlands-based artists who explore diversity within their work. It is an Arts Council England initiative delivered in collaboration with mac birmingham and The New Art Gallery Walsall.
The day will include presentations from the artists and organisers of BSTII and from other regional and national organisations who support artists in a variety of ways, including: Castlefield Gallery, Manchester; Movement, Worcestershire; Multistory, West Bromwich and Shropshire County Council. The event will also feature plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate with sessions chaired by Kwong Lee, Director, Castlefield Gallery, Manchester.
There will also be an opportunity to view a special presentation of work by some of the artists involved in BSTII and a studio visit with artist-in-residence Barbara Walker.
We hope the event will ignite debate, establish possible models for future working and identify potential collaborative relationships.
BSTII participating artists: Shaheen Ahmed, Dan Auluk, Pauline Bailey, Dilwara Begum, Rubina Bibi, Saranjit Birdi, Mark Carroll, José Forrest-Tennant, Karen McLean.
Event coordinated by Tasawar Bashir and Indra Khanna
